ERNEST & TOURIST SUSTAINABILITY INDICATORS

What ERNEST project is up to...

One of the actions performed by the ERNEST project is the study of indicators, carried out by means of exchange of information on measurement systems used by the partners, a structured questionnaire and exchange of information with other networks (including NECSTouR and the TSGroup).

The data collected will be used in order to have a picture of the state of play and to find out any gaps in research, identify operative measures and systems for revealing and correcting negative characteristics and give value to positive characteristics, identify sets of indicators measuring sustainability and competitiveness or methods of implementation (i.e. applicative models).

In view of the development of common governance principles, the research will not concentrate on the development of new sets of indicators, but rather highlight best practices, study how the indicators set can be adapted to the needs of the tourist destinations and how the destinations capacity to use indicators for a better and more sustainable management can be increased.
